Remove pits from 4 of the Ranier cherries, and place in a cocktail shaker. Muddle them with a muddler or a wooden spoon to bring out the juice and flavor. Leaving stems and pits intact, pierce the other 4 cherries with a garnish skewer. Set aside for the cocktail.
Squeeze the grapefruit and orange, and then using a fine mesh strainer, strain into the cocktail shaker. Add the vodka. Add a few small cubes of ice, and then shake vigorously.
Place a large ice cube into an old fashion glass, and pour the cocktail, using a strainer over the top. Garnish with the cherries.
