Watermelon Martini (or Mocktail!)

A watermelon martini is the quintessential sign of summer at our house. The first watermelon martini I made was 12 years ago when we first built our home. We worked on this home plan for several years. I wanted a pantry large enough to walk into, and make cocktails in. And we have it! It is our bar, pantry, and coffee nook! We have a place to cut up fresh watermelon, and a sink. This way, Bruce can be making dinner in the kitchen, and I can be making a watermelon cocktail (and a mess) in the pantry!

This cocktail was deemed the “Wa-Tini”. Yep, my first fruity martini that I made! The fresh flavor of watermelon and vodka or gin is just so SUMMER!

This watermelon martini recipe can be made for 1 martini, but feel free to make up a pitcher of them! The key is 2 parts vodka and watermelon juice to 1 part lime juice and 1 part Cointreau. Of course you can switch to rum, or gin, and always make adjustments to your taste. If you give this watermelon martini recipe a try, let us know what you think.

Can you freeze watermelon?

Yes! After cutting the fruit, arrange it in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and freeze for several hours until solid. Once frozen, place the watermelon in a bag for long term storage. It is perfect for blended drinks, or to simply add to a crisp glass of white wine!

Can I make this a Mocktail?

Yes! If you love a good mocktail, leave out the vodka, and sub out fresh squeased orange juice instead of Cointreau. I like to serve the mocktail over ice with a bit of soda water over the top! So refreshing! It is a fun drink served with a straw in a Mason jar!
