A watermelon martini is the quintessential sign of summer at our house. The first watermelon martini I made was 10 years ago when we first built our home. We worked on this home plan for several years. I wanted a pantry large enough to walk into, and make cocktails in. And we have it! It is our bar, pantry, and coffee nook!We have a place to cut up fresh watermelon, and a sink. This way, Bruce can be making dinner in the kitchen, and I can be making a watermelon cocktail (and a mess) in the pantry!
This cocktail was deemed the “Wa-Tini”. Yep, my first fruity martini that I made! The fresh flavor of watermelon and vodka or gin is just so SUMMER!
This watermelon martini recipe can be made for 1 martini, but feel free to make up a pitcher of them! The key is 2 parts vodka and watermelon juice to 1 part lime juice and 1 part Cointreau. Of course you can switch to rum, or gin, and always make adjustments to your taste. If you give this watermelon martini recipe a try, let us know what you think.
- 1 cup fresh watermelon cubes
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 ounce Cointreau
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 small watermelon wedge for garnish
Add the watermelon to a cocktail shaker, and muddle. Strain this out into another glass to get all the pulp out. You want to get at least 2 ounces of watermelon juice. Add the juice back into the cocktail shaker.
Add in the lime juice, vodka, and cointreau. Add a few large cubes of ice, and shake.
Strain into a chilled martini glass, and garnish with a wedge of watermelon.
